Almost not about music.
I didn't feel old when I hit 30
I didn't feel old when I hit 35
I didn't feel old when I became a father of 3
I didn't feel old when Ned started school
I didn't feel old after the snip, knowing that my child making days were over
I didn't feel old when I started going grey, when I lost most of my hair, when the grey hairs started appearing all over my body, not just on my head.
I didn't feel old when I was watching Life On Mars and could remember 1973. Just.

But when Ned showed me his wobbly tooth this morning, that's when I suddenly felt old.

On quite another topic, I've just finished two straight days of painting woodwork, and I have at least another 1 1/2 to do, followed by 3 full days next week. I'm dizzy from the fumes of gloss paint.

Which may explain why I didn't react to the comment here too well. I think I took it far too personally, and re-reading the original comment I think it wasn't intended that way. However, I was, and am still annoyed by the anonymity of the comment. I have no problem entering into what could be an interesting debate, and I'm not so unsure of myself or my arguments that I'd shy away from the conversation, but I don't like jousting shadows.

And it also opens up the question, which do you prefer? Mawkish Sentimentality or Fashionable Cynicism. Why don't you decide?

Yay for wobbly teeth... you'll have to be the tooth fairy soon - what are her going rates?

And I think you dealt with the anonymous thingamy very well :)

I have no idea what the going rate is - I shall have to ask. I'm tempted to say £1 for the first and 50p for subsequent, but I bet I find out that there are kids in his class who get a fiver for each tooth.

And thank you - I knew as I was replying that it was getting to me more than it should, so I edited carefully.

when I was little it was 50p for a front tooth, £1 for a molar and double that if the dentist took them out for me... I have a feeling that's why I was never scared of the dentist. I remember one very profitable trip to the dentist where I made £8. Which is a fortune when you're 7!

Your tooth fairy had a sliding scale! Blimey, that's very civilized. And £8? I'd go to the dentist for that now, and I'm 37.

I wouldn't worry too much about the anonymous comment - it seemed pretty innocuous to me, and sometimes anon. comments are just people forgetting to log into LJ.

*Tempted to make this comment anon for effect*

I agree - with hindsight I think I took it far too personally when it wasn't directed like that. However, I do disagree strongly with the expressed sentiment and stand by my arguments.

I was wondering how many anonymous comments I was going to draw as a result! It could be someone who doesn't have an LJ account which is another good reason to be anon, but I just don't like the idea of making statements like that without knowing who I'm dealing with.

That's my default position, though I have been reminded that it may be someone just forgetting to log into LJ (and I also thought it could be someone without an LJ account), so it could, just possibly be an honest mistake. Thing is, I don't think I know anyone who'd hold that opinion, or at least who'd express it in that way.

Without wishing to sound patronising or creepy, I think women generally age beautifully. The more character the face has, the more it's lived in, the more there is to find beautiful about it. Either that, or I've got a thing for MILFs! Who knows?!

I'm with Ange on this one... my general opinion of anons (especially ones who have a directly opposed viewpoint) is that they're at best a friend who's not logged in - and when it's that, I always get a "that was me" message later - or they're just trolling for some verbal sparring. Mock's got a point in that it may well have been said in honesty by the person involved, but I think the Net puts people on a defensive footing from moment one. You have to speak very plainly to the people you don't know or you risk getting misunderstood.

I prefered it when trolls just lived under bridges. Now the buggers are everywhere. Going out to pick a fight is all well and good, but if you don't have the balls to do it with your own face on... well, you can just keep pissing into the wind; she never answers back and you're the only one with wet shoes.

And Ange, you shouldn't feel old; you don't look it in the slightest :)

Aww thank you, Dave.

Yanno, I wish you would post w/a different pic. You look like you're pooping yourself while you are having a guzzle.

Absolutely not - I recognised the username immediately - we also have the lovely [info]new_brunette, in common, and any friend of his and [info]mockduck must be a lovely person.

I would be failing in my duty though if I didn't say a) I'm not desperately active journalwise at the moment, having recently become full time carer to our 3 children - still adjusting to the differing schedules and finding time to squeeze in an entry between school, nursery and nappies, and b) I would be delighted if you would take a look, and maybe even friend over at [info]forgottenalbums, my side project, which should be invigorated next week, once I finally get a computer which doesn't hate me.

Oh excellent!

I'm only active in fits and starts at the moment, what with work and small boy, but I do read most days. How are you finding being full time carer? My husband has recently given up work too, and is negotiating the rounds of the toddler groups (and coping with bieng the only man there!)

I will look at [info]forgottenalbums, and point a few other people in its direction.
